NOTD: China Glaze "Orange Marmalade"

I was DYING to put on Color Club "Revvvolution" but I have to go and visit the grandmother-in-law tomorrow so thought something less black was in order :) I chose long and hard between my recent acquisitions and it was "Orange Marmalade" that came up trumps. Its juicy sunshiney sparkle is just what I need right now, as I am suffering from my fractured foot, my fibromyalgia and a very sore conjunctivitis at the same time as trying to bid on a new house and organise our finances. Nothing better than a really sparkly nail polish to cheer one up :)

This polish collection DOES NOT work with my Nailtek II ridge filling foundation... It goes ultra-goopy, streaky and bubbly. But with Seche Clear, the application is ultra smooth and dries fast. This is 3 coats over Seche Clear with Seche Vite on top.

HTF NOTD: GOSH "Wild Lilac"

I was going for Maybelline Banana Puddin' today but destroyed it by being impatient and so went to my last planned HTF mani of the week, GOSH "Wild Lilac". A dusty lilac that was a bit of a problem child to apply, I think GOSH may have changed their formula.. It was goopy and streaky in the first coat but evened out in 2 coats. With Seche Vite on top it evened out even more. Also, don't use this with Nailtek II Foundation ridge filler, it needs a smooth glossy base coat to be able to go on smoothly.
Thank goodness this is my last HTF mani, I am dying to try my new polishes I've got this week :)

IN TODAY'S MAIL: China Glaze "Summer Days"

From left:
Watermelon Rind, Grape Juice, Strawberry Fields and Orange Marmalade

My choices of the "Summer Days" collection are finally here!! :) This rubbish photo with my work camera doesn't do them justice. They have that awesome glass fleck finish that just sparkles so incredibly intensely no matter the light conditions. I cannot wait for HTF week on MUA to end so I can try these :)

Misa Forbidden Lust, Dirty sexy money, Bikini with a martini, Pour me something tall and strong and The graiss is always greener

This lovely selection of Misa nail polish arrived today from the lovely lausiepoos at MUA :) Thanx again chick!

HTF NOTD: Nails Inc "Friendly Selfridges"

This nail polish was found in a dusty display in Selfridges department store in London in October 2008. I think it might be a Selfridges exclusive. This is can be considered HTF cause it's a) Nails Inc and b) a limited edition/store exclusive colour.
In the bottle it looks like a gilded metallic red, but on the nail its a glimmering deep, rich, glowy bronze. Like autumn leaves. It's very lovely, and it's a shame it's been untried for so long! It has the nice Nails Inc formula that goes on smooth and is opaque in 2 coats. This is with Nailtek II Foundation base coat and Poshe top coat.

NOTD: Kolor "Astro"

This is a hard-to-find polish that was discontinued about 4yrs ago. I think this bottle may be about 7-8yrs old but still applies beautifully. Its a true blue with silver sparkles. If anyone can suggest a dupe for this that would be most appreciated :D

NOTD: GOSH "Yellow Bombay"

My boyfriend bought some daffodils for me today, but they're still in buds, so I felt I needed some really spring-y coloured manicure to cheer myself up. MUA nail board girls are running a HTF week again, so my HTF contribution was clear - Danish makeup brand GOSH. I chose the daffodil yellow "Yellow Bombay". It's very easy to apply, and very nicely opaque in 2 coats (only slight VNL). It's glittery, so I put on a nice coat of Poshe to keep it twinkling! I love this mani, it's very colourful and brightens up any day. Also, I have a dress that matches it perfectly :)

NOTD: Bloom "Bianca"

I can't believe someone in the industry actually for once listened to us nail polish lovers! :) Read the comments section here on my past post on Bloom nail polishes to find out what has been going on! Bloom's brand manager in the UK obviously thought I was right when I said "Bianca", "Goldie" and "Josephine" was totally hot and would sell, and now they've just been put up for sale in the UK! And they are DIVINE!! To my despair, "Goldie" was a total clash with my skintone already in the bottle, so I passed on it :(
I got them today, and they are already a hit on MUA too! This is seriously 3rd fave polish ever (Rimmel Camouflage and China Glaze Moonpool share #1, L'Oreal 330 is 2nd...) As mentioned in my other Bloom post, "Bianca" has hyperpigmentation, and a fantastic peacock duochrome effect. As Siobhan of The Nailphile put it "It's NYX Jungle on speed". It's perfect in two coats and dries quickly. It costs £8 but it is the best £8 you will have spent in a long time!! If you can, get it now. You will never regret it. This photo doesn't do it justice at all! I will try get better photos in the daylight tomorrow.

You can also look forward to seeing "Josephine" swatched soon, a truly glowing blue-purple metallic vamp!

NOTD: China Glaze "Innocence"

I saw this polish on e-polishblog today, so I went past my Sally's at lunchtime after dropping off some work at the printers and they had it in stock. I never thought that I would ever find a good nude polish, but "Innocence" is exactly what the doctor ordered! It's just the right pink, the right jelly sheer. I'm in love! :) What do you think? Is nude ok, or should it be colour?

I did a proper manicure as well today, with Sally Hansen Gel Cuticle Remover (the green tube) and Bubblewhite whitening treatment. It actually worked better this time - I scrubbed the nails proper with a stiff nail brush after soaking and it worked like a miracle! I've not had pale pink nails and white tips since.. I was born?... I feel a new era of nail polish coming on :) After I've tried all my Sally Girls I bought today! :)

From left to right: China Glaze Innocence, Sally Girl: Get out!, Luv it, Type A, Gotta have it and Dumped.

This photo is blurry and rubbish, it's my knackered work camera, and the colours are brighter and more sparkly in real life.

Pretty sweet huh?? :)

REVIEW: ♥ Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Multi-Repair Cream ♥

This has become my holy grail of skin cream. It doesn't smell of anything in particular, just that light chemical scent of fragrance free products. I like that. I have a lot of natural and organic products right now, so I am becoming even more sensitive to fragrance (I should wear face mask for doing my nails, it's actually starting to get to me).

This cream comes in a handy pump dispenser with a lid so I can put it in my handbag and it will still be ok. It goes on easy, sinks in really quickly and is not sticky or slippy. It has transformed my scaly hands overnight! And it's not very expensive: £3.50. I use it for my hands and my dry skin in top of my arms and my dry elbows. It's truly a multi-repair cream :)

NOTD: China Glaze "Moonpool"

You can read the story how I got this glorious VHTF polish here :)

This is 3 coats of "Moonpool" over Nailtek II Foundation B/C and Poshe quickdry T/C:

I decided to compare "Moonpool" with Zoya "Irene", as I thought they might be slightly similar. They are not. "Moonpool" has a golden glow that "Irene" do not. So you are quite justified having both colours :) "Moonpool is the green on the left, on the right is "Irene". In case you're wondering, the gorgeous blue glitter on the left is Barry M Blue Glitter layered over 2 coats of GOSH Blue Monday. The grey on the right is 2 coats of Barry M #293.

There is a story to be told here. I have a fave Ebay shop for nail polish, All Polished Up Nails. Lindsay who runs it is always really, really good; top notch stuff and swift delivery. And great prices and selection, not to mention those :) It's UK based, so postage is better than ordering from USA. Anyway, a while before Christmas I ranted to her in an Ebay communication that I would probably pay A LOT if she could get me China Glaze's Moonpool. As always she said she'd keep her eyes open... I had little hope, knowing that this is one of the items that sell for a fortune on Ebay and is what us nail fanatics is VHTF = Very Hard To Find.

Then out of the blue she emailed me and told me about an auction for Moonpool on Ebay US. She sent me the Ebay number and I went on to have a look. I go on Ebay a lot, but have given up searching for Moonpool (at reasonable prices), so I wasn't aware that there was an auction on for Moonpool. She told me the seller had previously listed Moonpool and it'd sold for about $10. Sweet! I swiftly went bidding.

The auction ended at 02.11am, UK time. I set an alarm to wake up for the end of the auction, and laid in my bed with my laptop and eagerly refreshed the selling page. And I won!! Paid a little bit more than $10 but hey, it still was worth it. Now I am sitting here gazing at the bottle in my office. I can't believe it. My biggest lemming ever has been satisfied. I will never need another nail polish. Until China Glaze Summer Days comes to All Polished Up Nails, of course :P

Isn't she a beauty?.. Who doesn't love Moonpool from China Glaze? OMG! It's a tie with Rimmel Play Fast "Camouflage" for Best Ever Nail Polish... This photo isn't very accurate, it it more vibrant grass green and sparkly in real life.

Thanks a million to Lindsay at All Polished Up Nails for once again providing service above and beyond expectations!!

NOTD: Urban Decay "ID" over Rimmel 60sec "Silver Bullet"

I once tried "Silver Bullet" on it's own and I hated it. It's really stark white metallic, and it just didn't go with my skintone. So last night after discovering that my precious "Jo" was peeling off the nail that peels (grrrrr.....) I decided I was going to put on one of my all-time favourite polishes, Urban Decay "ID". And once again I will lament the passing of this nail polish line. Why??..

Anyway, I digress. I slapped on Nailtek Foundation II, 2 coats of "Silver Bullet" then followed by 3 coats of "ID". The end result was so beautiful it almost made me cry :) The bright white metallic base seems to bring out a sparkle that you won't get with "ID" alone, the gold shimmers like a thousand little pieces of gold. It's simply awesome, and I think that this combo will probably make it's way to my toes tonight :)

Nail Polish Layering

I am still loving Zoya "Jo" but that hasn't stopped me playing about with nail polish. On the left is 2 coats of Zoya "Colbie" and then 1 coat of China Glaze "Ruby Pumps". On the right is 2 coats of Revlon "Steel her heart" topped with 1 coat of China Glaze "Tinsel". Sparkle-tastic! :)

NOTD: Zoya "Jo"

"Jo" is part of Zoya's Spring collection Twist. It's blue lies somewhere between cornflower and periwinkle with a muted tone. There are no dupes to this colour in my nail polish stash, none come even close to the dainty blue of "Jo". It is lusciously shimmery in the sunlight and more subtle glowing in artificial light. It is hard to photograph this colour, my camera doesn't seem to handle the colour of this polish very well. This is the best photo of many.
Unfortunately this polish suffers from 3-free syndrome in being gloopy and thick but runny at the same time. This is 3 coats and Poshe top coat. It requires patience to apply but the end result is totally worth it!

EOTD: Fyrinnae pastels

I am currently loving the Fyrinnae eyeshadows! Here is "Happy Fun Pink", which was actually a free sample with my order, and "Wizards Apprentice". Love it! :) It will also go well with todays' NOTD, Zoya "Jo", but more on that later!

NOTD: Valentine's Manicure

I have been planning to do a proper Valentine's Day mani's all week but I remembered I had client meetings today so I decided something more traditional was needed (if you can call "Stop traffic" traditional...). I don't do Valentine's Day, so here is the idea I got for my own Valentine's manicure; it's Valentine's Day with an edge :) However, this mani will probably make way for Moonpool at the weekend, if it ever arrives!

Base coat is NailTek Foundation II. The red is my fave red ever, Nails Inc "Aspen", and the black is Rimmel 60 sec "Blackout", on the black is a single red heart-shaped rhinestone. Slapped on a lot of Seche Vite on the rhinestones, it needs it to seal them in if they are >3mm in size.
Please excuse the dry scaly cuticles :( We've had really cold snowy weather lately and my skin has dried up like a desert. and my cuticles are cracking...

Tuesday, 10 February 2009

NOTD: ♥ ♥ Rimmel 60sec "810 Stop Traffic" ♥ ♥

This colour is blazing hot and truly deserves it's name! It is bright neon pink which has a depth and shimmer you don't often see in cheap nail polish, almost slightly duochromey with lilac-blue. I has China Glaze "Adore" in mind for today, but I chose this colour because reading Scrangie's post rekindled my love for Rimmel polishes. I have so many, but this is one of my all time favourite ones. "Stop traffic" has to be at least 7 yrs old or so, and it's getting really stringy and goopy. It smells strongly of chemicals; this is so not 3-free! :) This time, I needed to thin it with Seche Restore before I used it, and after that it was as perfect as ever. It is a true pick-me-up colour! :)

Foot Spa!

Check out my new foot spa! :) I fractured my right foot all the way back in October. I am still suffering badly, especially now in the freezing cold. I am now in between x-rays taken and doctor's final verdict at the moment. You can hardly see the bruising cause there is so much bubbles from this machine, but its right on top of my right foot... :( It's really sore, only thing that soothes it is heat. So I got myself a foot spa with infrared heat and massage. The glowing red light is the infraheat pad. I have really small feet so I can put almost the whole of my foot on the heat pad, and it gets awesomely hot and soothes the pain deep inside the foot. Aaaaaahh... The massage mode is noisy and the bubbles are messy but it all adds up to one sweet machine for sore feet! :)

NOTD: Nails Inc "Ascot"

How gorgeous is this green?! It's couple of years old now, so becoming harder to find.. I might need to get a backup bottle for this while there is time.

It's the same super-opaque Nails Inc formula, superb to apply and has a nice deep shimmer and dries quickly to a high shine.

REVIEW: Boots Original Beauty Formula Lavender Hand Cream

The larger Boots stores is a Mecca for beauty fanatics in the UK. In Aberdeen, we are blessed with a rather good one that carries most of the large brands, and also a load of the new breed of brands like Bliss Labs, Urban Decay, Benefit and Origins. Anyway, cruising Boots in a vain attempt to find a foot spa for my poor fractured foot, I came across the shelf for the recently launched Boots Original Beauty Formula. This range feature old Boots pharmacy beauty products in retro-styled packaging in blue and pink. My hands have been giving me a hard time lately, due to the snow and cold. So I chose this hand cream to try the range.

So what was it like? It goes on with a nice fresh lavender scent, sinks in quickly and my hands feel very smooth and not sticky. The packaging is so cute as well and I think it will travel well in my handbag. I like! :) 4 0f 5 stars, missing out that last star because of it's rather ridiculous £4.89 price tag for 45ml ($5+ for 1.5 US fl.oz)...

EOTD: Fyrinnae browns

Today was my grandmother-in-laws birthday lunch so I thought I'd go for something glam but still fairly low key to wow the inlaws :) I chose Fyrinnae's incredible copper shadow Sunrise with some Fyrinnae Sake & Sashimi to make a cats' eye corner. As usual I started with a base of Urban Decay Primer Potion, I also used Clinique Quickliner for Eyes in Dark Chocolate and Benefit Creaseless Cream Eyeshadow in RSVP. Lips are bare, I just put some lipbalm on cause it's still snowing so they're really dry.
Here you can see my new hair colour, still slightly too dark, oops...

OOH WHAT'S THIS... : Karpati Dito Nail Polish

I was just surfing the internet one night when I stumbled across this innovation! Apparently, its a 3 Free nail polish in a bottle you put between your fingers to keep it handy when you paint your nails. Clever! No reviews of this on MUA. I immediately saw an opening to be the first to review this brand.

Colour I got was called "Crispy Apple", apparently part of the Refract collection described as "a shimmering, glittering range of colours". The colour selection is pretty good, but sadly, no greens. I avoided the blues cause I have a load of them already, but then again I got about a million reds :P This colour is gold-shimmering bright red, very summery and looks fresh, like a nice Red Delicious apple :)
I have to say, the bottle is ok, it's the "bottle top" and the brush that's the problem. Only one word for it, awkward. My boyfriend snapped a pic of me applying it, as you can see. It's not easier than a normal bottle, quite the opposite. But the formula is great. Flows on smoothly and opaque in 2 coats, and dries lightning fast. Dries nice and glossy but I am addicted to my Poshe quick dry T/C :P
Overall a great polish in an awkward bottle. Suppose any sales quip is needed nowadays to stand out on the market, but the label should go to normal bottles and just sell it that way as it has a a fantastic formula and a great colour selection, the photo doesn't do this colour justice, it just glimmers :)

FOTD: Fyrinnae

My very first try at my Fyrinnae makeup I got the other day, I am so excited to share this. Firstly, I took some advice from Rocketqueen and applied a lot of loose translucent powder under my eyes to be able to brush away fall-out easily. Glad I did :) I also used UD Primer Potion and cream eye shadow to make the shadows fix better, as suggested in various reviews on

Please forgive the haggard face and faded shadows, I didn't have time to photo before I left the house so i took my camera with me, but by the time I got into the office through the blizzard, the makeup wasn't the best :P And that's just from walking from the bus stop to the office! There is a fire in these eyeshadows that you won't see in any off-the-shelf drugstore available brands. I can't wait to try the other colours now :)

Anyway, here is the products used (all dry):

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion
Benefit Creaseless Cream Eyeshadow "RSVP"
Bobbi Brown Corrector "Bisque"
Bobbi Brown Concealer Kit "Beige"
Barry M SuperSoft Eye Crayon "No 5"
Fyrinnae City Glam Lights of Auckland (bottom left)
Fyrinnae Happy Fun Pink (bottom middle)
Fyrinnae Meerkat (bottom right)

MAC Blushcreme "Sweet William"
Bourjois 10hr Sleep Foundation "Rosé Clair 72"

Fyrinnae Lip Lustre Glitter Kittiez
Fig and Rouge Organic Rose Balm (cause it's cold out there!)

Wednesday, 4 February 2009

IN TODAY'S POST: Fyrinnae Eyeshadows

From top left: Lip Lustre Glitter Kittiez, City Glam: Lights of Auckland, Happy Fun Pink, Meerkat, Sunrise, Sake & Sashimi, Boytoy, Arcane Magic: Dragonmagic, Leif, Visage, Biker Chic, Digital Faerie, Arcane Magic: Wizard's Apprentice

It's finally arrived! Although I must say I haven't waited as long as some other girls have; I ordered mine on the 13th January, so just about 3 weeks. After sitting all day staring at the parcel afraid to open it in case something spilled out, I finally finished work and could go home and open it. The sample jars themselves look great, I will definitely be re-using them once they're empty for nail art stones and various product testers.

NOTD: Rimmel 60 Sec "Funtime Fuschia" with Konad

My SO got me the M64 image plate from Konad for my birthday :) Yippie, he's a lovely man indeed! I was dying to try it last night but my green franken was still looking good so I resisted the temptation. However, today the green is showing tipwear so off it came, and on went Rimmel 60 Sec "Funtime Fuschia" with an adornment of Konad from plate m64 made with GOSH "Holographic". Colours are cool but the Konad isn't so successful, I think I needed to be much quicker with the scrape/stamp than I was. Also haven't cleaned up the cuticles yet, so please excuse the excess polish :)

I've been turned onto the pinks again by various recent entries on the nail blogs recently. This pink polish was my very first blog entry and you can see it here as a funky French mani I did when I had longer nails. I love this polish because it's applies beautifully, dries fast and it's also bright, pink and superglossy to boot! :)

REVIEW: L'Oreal Casting Creme Gloss "623 Cafe Latte"

For being a girl as easily bored with my appearance as me, it's surprising I don't actully colour my hair anymore. I've not done it for years, so goodness knows why I suddenly felt the urgent need to. But I did. It had to be done. My best friend Jim once said that Sweden is probably the only country in the world where girls who are naturally blonde colour their hair dark brown! Usually it's the other way round.. I guess it's true, the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence! :)

So after to-ing and fro-ing for a while I decided on the colour I wanted. It's a lot darker than my natural colour, which is a light honey blonde. "623 Cafe Latte" would according to the description give the hair a touch of brown with "shimmering golden tones" and was suitable for blonde, dark blonde and light brown hair. No ammonia either. Conditions while colouring. Washes out in 28 washes. 'Can't go wrong!' I thought. Ahem.

So I locked myself in the bathroom with the kitchen timer and went to work. Casting Creme Gloss is very easy to mix and apply and the box has a built-in hole to put the tube of colorant in while you're working the stuff in. No stains on your sink! :) Clever, I like that. It has a chemical smell, but it's not sharp or very strong like I remember some other colorants being. It doesn't drip and has like a thick gel texture. I worked it in and let it sit for 20 mins as recommended. Rinse and apply the post-colouring conditioner that comes in the pack. Done. This morning I inspected the results after the hair had dried naturally.

Perhaps a bit darker than anticipated, but in a weird way. Still looks like I'm a blonde, but with brown/auburn tones. I'd say it actually looks like I've donned a cheap disguise (well, suppose it is, it only cost me £4.58...) Ahem. Guess thats why I don't colour my hair any more! Oh well. One of my work colleagues described the colour as "mink", so I googled that and sure enough, I think there is a definite similarity. Not quite brown, not quite caramel and not quite blonde. I hope it fades to more caramel blonde than mink fur soon.

If you have brown hair and think it needs some pizzazz, try some of the brown/red shades in this range like Terracotta or Rich Espresso, I am sure it will liven up your hair colour. However, if you're a natural or dyed light blonde, don't use this. If you want to go dark, see your hair dresser (thats me told). If you use Casting Creme Gloss, you'll still look like a blonde with a cheap disquise. If your hair is bleached blonde I think you might end up very, very dark, perhaps discoloured. If you have dark brown or black hair, don't bother with Casting Creme Gloss, I don't think it will have the colour power to change your hair colour signifcantly, just add shine.

I'll keep you all posted on the fade as it happens, if it happens :) I might have to try Rocketqueen's tip on fading hair colour yet...

NOTD: Franken Bottle Green Creme + Pedi

This is my 2nd Frankenpolish attempt at dark green and it has come out AWESOME!! First attempt ended up in a greyish mess :( This is opaque in 2 coats, please excuse the messy application, the brush on the empty polish bottles is quite stubby and collects heaps of polish. The photo makes it look brighter green than it is cause my camera is stupid. But it's not a "nearly black" dark green like NARS Zulu, it's more like RBL Recycle (but without the $18 price tag!). It applies shiny but I put on a coat of Poshe anyway for maximum shine and wear. BC is Nailtek Foundation II.

Holy s***, I love this colour!! :D

This is the recipe, with rough percentages:
  • 50% Rimmel I Love Lasting Finish "Sunshine" (yellow creme)
  • 40% Nails Inc "Hanover Square" (a very dark navy creme)
  • 5% Barry M "Lime Green 137" (lime green creme)
  • 5% Viva La Diva "56" (dark green jelly-finish creme)

And to complement, I painted my toes (yay no more broken toenail!); a lovely layering of 2 coats OPI "Can you dig it"? with a coat of Zoya "Juicy". BC is Seche Clear and TC is Seche Vite. That's my feet on my hot water bottle, you need it when doing your pedi in wintertime in the UK!

Juice-a-licious, what else can I say?? :)

WANTED: Urban Decay Cream Eyeshadow

Holy-moley, has anyone out there tried the newly released Urban Decay Cream Eyeshadows?? Soon to arrive in the UK, these all look HOT! Just look at this one, called "Grass", and described and "metallic junebug green". What's not to love???

Sunday, 1 February 2009

NOTD: Zoya "Richelle" with Nfu-Oh #49

This was very pretty and glowy - more polished copper than gold. I would call it "Sunburst" if it was an actual polish. This is basecoat, 2 coats of Richelle then 2 coats of #49, 1 thick coat of Seche Vite. This mani was lovely, until I tried to remove it. OMG!!! Felt and acetone and 15mins of rubbing trying to get it off... Nice colour though :)

Very First FOTD

I've avoided doing this for ages, because I can never get a good photo of my EOTD/FOTDs. Didn't get one this time either, ha ha, but decided to show my fave makeup just now anyway. I am practising for when my Fyrinnae shadows arrive (woohoo!!) You can hardly see it but here goes:

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion

Champagne shimmer base from Benefit Creseless Shadow "RSVP"

Deep aqua duochrome shadow L'Oreal Holographic "Xenon Blue"

Dark green sparkly eyeliner by Rimmel "Emerald Sparkle"

Chanel Inimitable mascara

Bobbi Brown Corrector "Bisque"

Bobbi Brown Concaler Kit "Beige"

Maybelline Superstay Powergloss "Radiant Ruby".

MAC Blushcreme "Sweet William"

I am also trying the new Dior Nude foundation today in "Medium Beige", which was quite dry for me, but held up very well in the damp cold Aberdeen air today while I went shopping. I would recommend this to ladies with combination/oily, oily or young skin, not if you have dry and/or sensitive skin.
